How to Change Last Name in NBI Clearance for Married Women

July 10, 2018 8:45 am

In this tutorial, we’ll be sharing how to change last name in NBI Clearance for Married Women. If you just recently tied the knot and planning to renew all the valid IDs you have using your married name, you might consider to have your NBI Clearance changed first because it’s easier and cheaper compared to changing your name in your Philippine Passport. We have written a detailed tutorial down below on how to do it.

You may leave your question in the comments sections and we’ll get back to you. So without further ado, here it is!

Requirements for NBI Clearance Application

Before setting an NBI Clearance appointment, make sure that you have all the requirements needed before the appointment date that you’re going to set. If you missed the appointment you have scheduled, it will automatically be canceled.

The following are the NBI Online application requirements. You’ll notice that the requirements below are the same with the normal application.

Additional NBI Clearance requirements for married women who would like to change their Last Name.

  • A Marriage Certificate in Security Paper (SECPA) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) or Certified True Copy (CTC) of MC issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) and duly authenticated by PSA
  • Old NBI Clearance (if available).

Once you have completed all the requirements, scheduled an appointment and paid the NBI Clearance Application in any of the payment options available, you’re good to go!

Change Last Name in NBI Clearance Process

Since our goal here is to change last name in NBI Clearance, the entire process is considered to be a new application. We can’t classify this as a renewal because there will be changes from our old NBI Clearance.

To start the process of application, create a new account in NBI Clearance website. If you’re wondering why you need creating a new one even if you have already an account in NBI Clearance, its because your old account have still carries your old name. Old name, meaning you still have your maiden name in that account and the website doesn’t allow us to modify it. You may use another email address you have to register.

How To Change Last Name In Nbi Clearance For Married Women

If you don’t have an NBI Clearance account yet, then there’s no problem. You may register using your name bearing the last name of your husband.

Complete all the needed personal information in the “Applicant Information” section.

How To Apply Nbi Clearance Online Nbi Clearance Applicants Information

After successful registration of your new account, schedule your preferred appointment date and time. You may choose from the calendar shown in the website.

The last step would be to pay your NBI Clearance in any of the Payment option shown in the screenshot above. On the list you have Bank Over the counter payment, Online Banking, Mobile Payment, Bayad centers, MultiPay, ECPay and lastly 7-Eleven Payment. Choose what’s more convenient for you.

When the appointment date arrives, make sure to appear in your selected NBI Clearance Branch. Please note that the NBI Clearance processing is strictly implementing the “No Appointment No Entry Policy” for NBI Clearance applicants. All NBI Clearance applicants are advised to register online and have their appointment date set in advance. So if you have no appointment there, then you don’t have a right to be there. Don’t beg the NBI Clearance personnel to accept you without an appointment, they don’t need to hear whatever reasons you have.

It’s a common knowledge that NBI Clearance have to queue applications due to volume. This always happen during biometrics and photo capture steps. Be patient and wait for your turn. There’s usually a queue line so you have to get in line.

IMPORTANT: You may need to inform the NBI Clearance Personnel who will verify all the information that you’ve entered that you’re going to change last name in NBI Clearance. Show them your married certificate as an evidence.

After data verification, photo capture and finger printing, you are now close to the last step which is claiming your NBI Clearance in the printing section. But before you celebrate, the NBI Clearance Personnel will provide you a feedback if you’re going to receive your NBI Clearance the same day. This is due to the HIT status you may encounter. If you’re not lucky, you may end up empty handed and asked to come back on the date they have indicated in your receipt.

To know more about the HIT status, you may read my other post “You’ve been HIT: Reasons why you can’t afford a One Day Processing NBI Clearance!

But if you’re lucky enough, then they will ask you to head down to the NBI Clearance printing section and claim it!

Overall, it was really quick and easy right?

Here are some (possible) questions you might ask while reading this tutorial.

1. Can I change my NBI Clearance to my married name even if it’s not yet expired? Yes, you can!

2. I have valid IDs under my maiden name. Do I have to change all of them to my married name? Yes but it’s not urgent and optional. But if you’re travelling and you’re going to use your Philippine Passport under your maiden name, then that’s a different story.

3. I just recently got married, do I have to change last name in NBI Clearance to my married name immediately? As I have mentioned above, no. But it’s really your call.

4. What if I don’t have a copy of my Marriage Certificate, is that ok? No, it’s best to bring a copy of NSO issued Marriage Certificate first before you change last name in NBI Clearance.

5. When I was single I have no hit but when I got married, I now got a Hit. What happened? Probably, you have a namesake. Don’t worry, if you didn’t do anything wrong that leads to a criminal case you don’t have a reason to worry.

Hope this tutorial was helpful to you! See you again in our next blog post.

It was not clearly stated here if that was the case. Anyone pls help to clear out the confusion here. thanks

  • Jennalyn Ina Floresca says:

Sooo… I just made another account and wanted to change my last name since I just got married. I badly need a new ID with the new last name. How am I supposed to do that? I did what you wrote above. That I need to make a new account, filled out the section on your first instruction. Then I ended up having the same last name on the account that I made. Now I can’t delete the new account I made and I can’t edit the last name. So I have two accounts with the same last name. Please help. Thank you!

    • Audrey says:

Just edit the information and it will be done. 🙂

    • V says:

Same thing with me. The system will automatically take your “maiden name”. Very confusing. This post is not clear and has a ton of grammatical errors and typos, too. Very unreliable.

  • Liezel Nadine says:

Can I change my Husband Surname name to my Maiden Name?

    • Kat Delano says:

      Yes pwede po iyon.

  • yey says:

The last name na pinipick up ng system automatically once nagsign up ka, is the maiden name. It’s misleading, if ever gusto namin magappear ang married name namin.
i think it should not auto pick up the name para di maguluhan.

  • Gloria Francia Escueta says:

I want to change my surname..I input a wrong data.instead of Francia, I wrote Pillarte my middle initial.. How can I change it.?

  • Mitch says:

Ang gulo po ng application nyo! As in!

    • Jessica Reine says:

Same issue. I followed all their instructions, but ended up with the same result you got.

    • richelle lapitan says:

nagpifill up po ako ngayon dito sa bahay para less gastos and makasave ng time. di po ako maituloy pag fill up yan din po ang problem ko, kasi di ko po alam kung anu din ifill up ko nakalagay kasi di na pwede baguhin once na mairegister mo un. i’m not sure sa ilalagay ko kasi baka magkamali ako hirap wala mapagtanungan. ang lumabas pa rin kasi na pangalan is nung dalaga pa ako. hayst.

    • Abigail Mercado says:

I have the same issue. How do we resolve this?

  • ELLY says:

HI. I READ AND LEARNED ALL. BUT I DONT GOT THE ANSWER FOR MY QUESTIONS.

MY QUESTION IS: PAANO PO OR PAANONG PROCESS OR PAANONG APPLICATION PO ANG IAAPPLY KO KUNG YUNG SURENAME IS SA MAY FIRST HUSBAND KO PA ANG NAKAREGISTER SA NBI INFORMATION KO. BUT WE ALREADY NULL AND VOID OUR MARRIAGE. NOW I WANT TO APPLY AND UPDATE ALSO THE
MY SURENAME TO MY NEW HUSBAND PAANO PO KAYA MAG AAPLLY SA ONLINE?
AND ANO ANO PO KAYA ANG MGA REQUIREMENTS KO NA NEED NG NBI.GOV.

    THANK YOU

  • jerrica bugarin monton says:

Good day po, kung mag apply ako ng work, pwede po bang di muna baguhin ang status sa nbi clearance?Kasi 1 year pa bago makuha yung certificate of marriege para palitan din status ko sa NSO.

    • ana mae says:

Pwede sya in 2 weeks. Just go to your local civil registrar then tell them na gagamitin mo na sya for work. eendorse ka nila yo just need to wait 2 weeks instead of 6mos to 1 year.

    • lei says:

pagkapasa sa civil registrar ng Marriage Cert mo. sabihin mo for “endorsement” makukuha mo na in 15 days sa PSA ang Marriage Cert mo.

  • gina says:

good day! just confuse, for married women, i already input maiden name and my husband’s surname yet my maiden name only appears in confirmation..and note exactly say information can’t be revised after confirmation..how’s that?…is this system failure or misalign input box in your system?..sounds confuse…i need your opinion on this…

    • Chris says:

Same problem here, have you sorted this out? Thanks

    • Harlene Perez says:

Same problem here, wondering if this is what is being instructed in the tutorial that you have to inform the personnel that you are processing/requesting for change of last name due to marriage …

      • Liberty Musni says:

Hi, same experince though O figured it out once I logged it to my new NBI account. Once you logged in to your NBI account you’ll see there your first name, middle name, last name, and husband’s last name. Even your status will show “married”.
        Hope this helps 🙂

How to change my NBI clearance from married to single due to annulled.

    • lei says:

just present the documents that your legally annulled.

  • Yonalisa jakosalem fabroa says:

If changes my last name or changes status can i process in any nbi branches?

    • Kat Delano says:

Just let them know na magpapalit ka ng last name and present any valid IDs bearing your new last name.

      • marynell lovely bondoc says:

Hi! Newly married po ako and tried registering as new applicant po, I noticed na ang nalagay sa last name po sa info sheet (which cannot be edited) is my maiden name kahit nainput naman po my husbands last name. Please advise re this matter. thank you.

  • Raychell Frac says:

if I change may status , can i present my Old ID bearing my Maiden name kasi po isa palang ang Valid ID ko which is Philhealth palag po. Thank You

    • Kat Delano says:

Mas magandang meron ka pong mapapakita na ID or Marriage contract or certificate na bearing your husbands last name.

    • lei says:

  • Chons says:

Im married here in the Philippines, but my husband and i working together in abtoad, we filled a divorce, My question is what ststus can i put in my Nbi application?

    • lei says:

married parin po ang ilagay niyo kasi hindi pa naman po kayo legally divorce. you can change it to “divorce” if legally divorce na kayo at isa po ang requirement pag ilagay mong divorce na ay yung katunayan na divorce n kayo dun mo lang papalitan. at pwede mo na rin palitan married name mo to your maiden name.

  • Chanda says:

Pano po kung certified true copy ng mc lang po yung meron ako but not autenticated ng PSA? Pwede padin po ba maprocess yung pag change ng last name?

    • lei says:

  • Myra Amar says:

Good day. Upon initially applying for ant account I input my complete maiden name and it appeared on my last name at my information sheet which cannot be edited. Please advise re this matter. thank you.

    • Lei says:

    First Name: Juana
    Middle Name: Ortega
    Last Name: Santos
    Husband Surname: Dela Cruz

    Juana Ortega Santos-Dela Cruz

  • Mary Grace says:

hello ask ko lang po, kukuha po ako ng nbi for travel abroad. just got married and my ids are still on my maiden name but i have marriage contract. if hihintay po kasi ako baka matagalan pa yung ids dadating like yung sa sss. okay lang po ba yun kahit yung e prepresent na id is naka maiden name pa?

    • Lei says:

Dapat yung marriage contract is authenticated ng civil registrar kung saan nafile yung certificate of marriage. At pag naauthenticate na kahit yun lang ang ipasa mo sa nbi para machange status from single to married at malalagay din yung husband surname.

  • jhin says:

    Good morning po.
Possible po ba mag change name from married to single name?

  • Francheska says:

What to do? Magkakaproblem kasi ako nyan if di match mga documents ko.

    • Joy Anne Pablo says:

Hello po, hyphenated surname din po ako. May sumagot na po ba sa inyo regarding this?

  • AA says:

Yes! Of course!

I am registering through online NBI application now. I just want to clarify on what is the right information to fill up in the middle name section when I am already married. I am confused because there is also an information to be filled up re: maiden name.
Does this mean that in the middle name section, I will fill up my middle name when I was still single?
Everytime I sign in after registering, my surname remains to be my maiden name and not my husband’s surname.
    Please help.

Hello! I went to your NBi Branch in UN today with my appointment. I ask the personnel who assisted me why my last name still under my father’s family name and not in my husband’s last. He didnt ask for my marriage certificate to change it. He just told me to register again. But in your system, it still asking to put my maiden name for new applicant. Its so confusing.Hope you can help me. Thanks!

P.S – I’ll be getting my NBI Clearance on Nov.9 because my father’s family name has a hit.
